The Pyramids of Giza

Only one of the ancient wonders of the world still exist today. The Pyramids are a tribute to the Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt but also to the men who built them. They managed to build structures using only man power that would last thousands of years. The Pyramids are full of Hieroglyphics that tell stories about the Egyptians. They are huge tombs built to hold the Pharaohs posessions as he journeyed to the afterlife. The Egyptians built pyramids because they thought the triangular form would reflect the suns rays towards the sky bringing the soul of the dead man closer to the heavens. Pharaohs were mummified before they were buried so that they would remain high up in stature in the afterlife. After the Pyramids were finished the workers were thrown in and the entrances were sealed so that grave robbers could not get into the gold-filled tomb.

Macchu Picchu

Macchu Pichu was discovered in 1911 by Hiram Bingham. It is built 8000 feet high deep in the Andes mountains. It truly is a city in the clouds. The citiy's history is shrouded in mystery as it is one of the only cities of the Incas that has no documentation, pictures or stories surrounding it. It literally is a lost city. What amazes people even more is how the Incas built the city so high up using only stone tools! In 1983 it was declared a world heritage site in order to protect the ruins. Tourist trek every year on the famous incan trail to visit the ancient village.

Niagra Falls

The northern lights have fascinated people for centuries. The eerie glow caused by the suns reflection on the earths atmosphere has encapsulated people for generations. Thousands of people travel to the magnetic poles every year to see one of the most amazing things in the world. Ayers Rock or Uluru in Australia's northern territory is over 342 metres. It is a sacred place for the aboriginies living in Australia. The caves around it are covered in Aboriginal paintings depicting Aboriginal culture. Why did they base their life around it? What made people throughout history take a shine to it? Well the Mountain is made up of Arkasic sandstone that reflects the suns light. In the day it glows bright orange under the intense Australian sun! Uluru is now in the center of a wildlife park. Over 350,000 tourists visit every year, many hoping to climb the steep mountain. However if you do visit try and hold back your tourist instincts.
